Excited For Turkey Season!

It’s been a few weeks since I wrote my last blog, but I feel like there hasn’t been much going on since then…

I took a trip down to Harrisburg, PA for the Eastern Outdoor Show with one of my friends, and met up with some great people and made some awesome plans for the upcoming year. We were at the show for two days and spent the night in a motel in Harrisburg where we ordered pizza and I paid for it in quarters hoping to annoy the pizza delivery boy, though he didn’t really seem to mind.

Last week I got called back to work at the farm so I’m finally making some money again… and I’m counting down the days to turkey season!

Turkey season in NJ starts about mid-April but this year it’s going to start a little earlier for me. This year I’m going for my grand slam: Eastern, Osceola, Merriams, and Rio turkeys. The beginning of April I leave for Florida with a good friend of mine, then from there we’re going to Kansas and Nebraska. (I’ve never hunted any of these states before!) Hopefully by the end of the trip (16 days) we’ll have 8 birds down!

I’m not sure how many women have completed their grand slam so I tried doing some research on it. (Most of the articles that came up for “turkey grand slam” had to do with Tennis players in Turkey!) I did manage to find several articles about a 7-year-old girl and her 11-year-old sister (Adriana and Alli Armstrong, http://www.alliarmstrong.com) who both completed their grand slams in 2009... I thought that was pretty amazing! Then I scrolled through the NWTF online record book and found quite a few women’s names listed their, even a few from New Jersey.

I still haven’t decided whether I want to use a bow or gun…I’ve started shooting my bow again to get some practice in just in case that’s what I decide to use.

I can’t wait…deer season hasn’t even been over for a month and already I feel like its been forever since I was in the woods. In one month I’ll be back out there…I have a feeling this year is going to be amazing!

  1. We've guided NWTF women who were on their quest for their grand slam. Have fun in KS. Not sure where you are going, but most of it is just plain and simple gorgeous farm land.
